Recoleta Cemetery Walk
As part of our visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina, we visited the Recoleta Cemetery. While expecting there to be large and ornately designed mausoleums, it came as a shock to see walls of some of the structures crumbling and windows broken, revealing burial vessels and caskets. It is fair to estimate that we spent more time here than at any other site in Buenos Aires.
What is it about cemeteries that captured my interest? It was from this particular interest that I learned the definition of a taphophile, which is one who has an interest in cemeteries, tombstones, funerals, burial rituals and the art and history relating to such.
